Referees

Seeking A and B Adult Players to Officiate
Hello everyone. Some of you may know my face and others may not. I may even have thrown some of you in the penalty box in which case I'm sure you remember me. I am the referee in chief for GAARA and I am appealing to all of you to consider becoming officials. Now wait, before you start laughing, think about it.

Here are five great reasons to get out there and try it:

  1. You can get out on the ice for a good skate a little more often than just playing once a week or so.
  2. You may find the challenge quite stimulating. (Believe me, it's not as easy as it looks)
  3. You will meet lots of great people and enjoy some whacky camaraderie.
  4. You will have a chance to give something back to the game that has probably given you many wonderful memories not to mention a friend or two along the way.
  5. Most of all you will have loads of fun. I caution you, it can become addictive.

The ringette programmes in this region need you! The National Capital Region Ringette League (NCRRL - minor leagues) has over 100 teams and GAARA now has 45 teams. Last season between the adults and kids approximately 1400 games were played and that doesn't include any tournaments! At two referees per game that's a lot of person hours.

To get started you will need to take a level 1 officiating clinic. There will be a clinic held on Saturday, September 30th from 09:00 to 17:00 at Confederation High School which is on Woodroffe right next to Nepean Sportsplex. If you are interested please contact me as soon as possible as I will need to provide you with some details and register you for the clinic. If you would like to officiate but you cannot make the date above, please let me know. If there is sufficient interest a second clinic date will be arranged.

I hope to hear from some of you soon. Have fun and see you out on the ice.
